One thing is for sure if you have a child with Autism, if that child is alone in another part of the house, mischief could be afoot. Luckily, in today's world, parents need not worry. There are some incredible products to help you manage your household, protect your child, and give you some much needed freedom. 1. Security Systems - If you don't have a home security system, get one. If you don't want to shell out the buck to deal with one of the big name companies in your area, consider going with the down and dirty X10 system. At a minimum, you want to know when your child leaves the home. We went a step further and put dead bolts on all of our doors. When the child is inside, he/she is inside and you know it for sure. If you go with the dead bolts, be sure and leave a key handy at each door in case there is a fire emergency. 2. Home Automation Systems - You don't have to be some kind of technology loving whiz kid to use X10 in some very cool ways when it comes to a child with Autism. For example, do you want to know if your child gets up at 3 AM, has a snack from the kitchen, files the DVD collection underneath the huge entertainment system, and attempts to flush a new whole roll of toilet paper just for kicks? Or maybe your child just wants to play with a few toys while you slumber away in another room.
Motion Sensor Super Center.. Click Here! I suggest that you start with a basic beginner's system if you have not done any home automation in the past. It's quick, simple, easy and using an IR sensor in the hallway outside your child's room (infrared) , you can be alerted that said child has left his/her room and needs to be stopped before any mischief is carried out. Means of accomplishing this task are limited only by your imagination. I suggest that you set the system to turn on a lamp in your bedroom when the sensor is triggered. Using very easy to use software, you can turn on any number of appliances. So, child wakes up, decides to go on an adventure, steps into the hallway and triggers the sensor, the light in mommy and daddy's room comes on and some parenting intervention saves the day. We don't really have many of these problems at night anymore, but there are plenty of creative solutions for the daytime as well. |
