Autism Highs and Lows, Lion King and Seizures

We went to see The Lion King 3D yesterday and it was an all around great family outing.  Going to the movies with a kid with autism is often a crap shoot.  Fine more times that not, but the occasional issue (like throwing Shrek action figure ten rows in front of us and scarring a nice family).  In any case, this time was great.  The movie was about the same as the other 20 or 30 times I’ve seen it, with the fringe benefit of a 3D headache.

Using Skype to Monitor your Child with Autism

As most of you know, leaving your kid with autism alone in another room, often leads to bad things, very bad things.  In our case, we have the standard behavior related reasons that supervision is needed plus worry over seizures.

We have been using laptops, iPads, and Skype to monitor our daughter from another part of the house.

The Seizure is Coming, The Seizure is Coming …

I feel like Paul Revere around here on many days.  Like so many kids with autism, my daughter has seizures.  As if autism in general was not enough, seizures add a whole new level of worry about going out in public and especially with activities like SWIMMING.  You have to be on guard 24/7 and know that even then one day, that might not be enough.

All I do know is that our lives changed on September 27, 2001 when our daughter had her 4 month vaccines. That’s when we had the first seizure of what is as of yesterday 350 or so, so far.

Google Flu Trends meet Google Autism Trends?

I’ve read a lot lately about Google Trends tracking the flu at Google Flu. It is pretty amazing.  Google Flu has not only been able to track Flu outbreaks, they have consistently done so weeks ahead of the CDC.  Somehow, they are able to sort out people just searching for the flu from those who actually have the flu.

Autism, Seizures and the Immune System

I am posting these links here because 1) I have been thinking a lot about autism and seizures of late (thanks to more seizures) and 2) I want to know more about this stuff and if it stares at me from my own blog maybe that will motivate me to do so.

First of all, WOW on the production value of this guy’s program. While the topic is a tad scary and conspiracy-ish, great site at JesseWoodrow.com.
