Can’t an autism dad get a break even when unconscious enjoying some rapid eye movements? The dreams I remember when I woke up this morning …
Being at a relatives house who in the dream had huge collection of ceramic figurines on shelves that covered the whole house. Some were of my daughter’s favorite things, like Shrek and Mickey Mouse. I was rushing around trying to keep her from destroying them.

We went to see The Lion King 3D yesterday and it was an all around great family outing. Going to the movies with a kid with autism is often a crap shoot. Fine more times that not, but the occasional issue (like throwing Shrek action figure ten rows in front of us and scarring a nice family). In any case, this time was great. The movie was about the same as the other 20 or 30 times I’ve seen it, with the fringe benefit of a 3D headache.

A new study out this week links having autism spectrum disorder to being an atheist. This seems to be the latest in a long line of similar autism studies. In this case, when they say “autism”, they mean Asperger’s Syndrome. A few other notable “autism linked to” studies that come to mind …

Platitudes that make normal people feel better about there problems often just don’t apply to parenting a child with autism. #1 on that list is “This too shall pass.” Um, not really. I guess this is technically true since all things eventually pass. Maybe it should be “This too shall pass, when you’re dead” although that doesn’t exactly give one the warm and fuzzy feeling of the original. Tweet This Post

Yesterday was like an unexpected Christmas Day in my world. When I arrived home from a weekend away, I was pleasantly surprised to find a brand new Google Chromebook CR48.
This is a laptop-looking device running the Google Chrome OS. For the geeks amongst us, this device falls somewhere between a pure cloud client and traditional laptop. I applied to be a part of the pilot program last year and thought the time frame was long since past when I might be accepted. I don’t recall much else of what I said in the application letter, but I do recall that I told them the unit would be Autism-Tested.

Autism is on the verge of entering a new degree of difficulty in our world. My daughter is approaching a size/weight where it is more and more difficult for me to pick her up. This means that the risk factor of being in public goes up significantly. Going out in public for us is somewhat of a crap shoot. About 90% of the time, it is not an issue. We can go anywhere. 10% of the time, it is a complete disaster.

Silver Spring, Md. March 25 — It all started when Jennifer Ethirveerasingam looked at her April issue of Parents magazine. Mother to a child with autism and aware that April is Autism Awareness Month, she began to page through the magazine, looking for an article—anything—about autism. Finding nothing, she told some friends, who posted on the Parents magazine Facebook page under the heading “Lack of Autism Coverage.”

As I always suspected, exposure to pet monkeys can cause autism.
Several days after that visit with the pet monkey in tow, Samantha’s symptoms of abnormal behavior began. Restlessness, bottle rejection, slight temperature, and a sudden convulsion caused the concerned mother to take her to the Emergency Room at the nearest hospital. A doctor looked and listened, and then sent them back home to recover.
