From 11/5 Rush Limbaugh transcript.
I have to give a big F*&^ You to El Rushbo on this one. My family has had insurance my daughter’s whole life. There has to be some means that families impacted by autism don’t get thrown under the bus and these kids can get the treatments they need. This is truly a case where society can pay now or pay later.

Dear Sharron Angle,
Your recent comments on health insurance for autism and the “air quotes” you used when with the term autism are seen as an offense to many parents and caregivers of kids with autism. When you talk about insurance companies should not being paying for therapies like ABA, Applied Behavior Analysis, because people like you shouldn’t have to pay for someone else’s problem; it shows me that you are pretty uninformed on both autism and insurance.

Already one of my least favorite pretend conservatives, Mike Huckabee is a real piece of work. The 1 in 91 kids with autism getting health insurance is apparently along the same lines as taking out property insurance after your house burns or car insurance after you wreck your car.

While I have not been a real fan of the new health care reforms in general, but consider me officially bought off and my change of mind paid for if it pays for ABA therapy and solves the pre-existing conditions dilemma, which it does according to the Autism Society. That alone would be a MASSIVE benefit for kids with autism, as well as their parent’s pocketbook. While maybe not all, this coverage will make the difference in deciding whether a lot of these kids grow up to be productive tax paying citizens themselves or supported by the government. (I will still have to see it to believe it that the default insurance company position on ABA will be changing from a Default No / Jump thru these 10,000 hoops approach to a Default / Yes / Paid position.)

How will Health Care Reform impact Autism Spectrum Disorders?
I really wish I had a clue of how to answer that question. I’ve heard all of the debating and name calling for a year and still really have no idea of exactly what just happened.

A study released this week showed that 67% of Americans were “confused about health care reform”. I must admit that I am one of the ignorant masses on this topic and I have tried to keep up. At some point in the last few weeks, I have found myself agreeing with both sides of this discussion and feeling misled by politicians of all stripes. The insurance companies have to be loving life. Confusion reigns supreme.
