A new study out this week links having autism spectrum disorder to being an atheist. This seems to be the latest in a long line of similar autism studies. In this case, when they say “autism”, they mean Asperger’s Syndrome. A few other notable “autism linked to” studies that come to mind …

Silver Spring, Md. March 25 — It all started when Jennifer Ethirveerasingam looked at her April issue of Parents magazine. Mother to a child with autism and aware that April is Autism Awareness Month, she began to page through the magazine, looking for an article—anything—about autism. Finding nothing, she told some friends, who posted on the Parents magazine Facebook page under the heading “Lack of Autism Coverage.”

In less than shocking news, the US Supreme Court handled down its decision in Bruesewitz v. Wyeth today. The court upheld the decision of the the Third Circuit. Basically, vaccine makers cannot be held liable for design defects if their vaccines were properly licensed by the FDA and included proper warning labels. Thus, the only avenue for vaccine injury claims (in theory) is still the Vaccine “Court“. I am not sure why I am even surprised by this decision. The complete ruling is available here.

I have to give a big F*&^ You to El Rushbo on this one. My family has had insurance my daughter’s whole life. There has to be some means that families impacted by autism don’t get thrown under the bus and these kids can get the treatments they need. This is truly a case where society can pay now or pay later.
