Thinking about our upcoming time away and how important it can be to get help when your family straining, I came across this great article by Lisa Jo Rudy. She makes some great points …
Together you and your partner dreamed of a healthy child - now you face a life very different from what you imagined. Your overwhelming feelings, both individually and combined, are normal and natural in the situation but very difficult nonetheless. The needs of the children are often complex and illusive. Searching to find the cause of children’s developmental problems and the best treatment can be a long hard journey. Getting wrapped up in the stresses and strains of everyday life, relationships inevitably suffer from lack of attention. Communication problems, lack of time and energy for personal, marital, and family activities, and social isolation affect many families. When a disability or chronic illness is discovered, powerful emotions surface and may put relationships on trial.

I am happy to report that we will be traveling to Washington DC next month to participate in the Green our Vaccines march on the capital. I am pretty down on the government at all levels, but it will be fun to get away for a few days. Mommy and Daddy will be traveling for several days sans daughter with Autism. I don’t recall the last time we got away without child. Grandmother is playing the part of Super Mom that week. Getting away is something all autism parents probably need to work in now and again.

I need some help please. Does anyone know of good weighted clothes that don’t look like a bullet proof vest? My 7 year old PDD-NOS daughter likes to wear cutesy, girly girl clothes, and check herself out in the mirror. The weighted vest helps with a lot of issues, but I have yet to see one that doesn’t draw attention to the child, which can be a bigger problem in and of itself for a lot of kids. Tweet This Post

Keeping on the Dave Ramsey theme, let’s talk about the Autism Budget.
Everyone needs to have a budget, but autism families really, really, really need a budget. Let’s face it, there are a gazillion autism therapies out there today. There are a lot of them that are very helpful, but most are expensive. Money problems are the #1 cause of divorce in America. Autism can for sure exacerbate financial stress and strain.
