From AutismMom … Autism and God: What we could learn from God’s perspective

What we could learn from God’s perspective

One evening after our daughter went to bed; I decided to finish a few simple tasks that have been lingering for months. Nothing of great importance, I thought; but, those kinds of things that I said I would do and just have not. One item on my list was to read an excerpt from a book of a local author. He is Christian who went astray for a time and is now a stronger, kind person via a journey he fully disclosed. He gave my husband a copy of his book when he realized our daughter was “special” and told us what pages to read. One page and it took me more than 6 months to get around to it. Obviously, I did not put much stock into it or was extremely enthused but one page couldn’t hurt to get to… someday. Well, that day came and it was something I did need to read. It referenced an old, close friend of mine and his daughter who for 13 years they have known she would never grow old. The mom and I have been close for almost 30 years and I never really knew her plight until I began my own journey with Autism. Who could? And I still don’t. Now, I want to be clear that in no way do I minimize or compare the severity of this beautiful, and she really is beautiful, child’s situation with mine. In the ASD community some consider there is a loss of the child we expected. Personally, I had hoped to be baking cookies for fun ONLY and not a HOH drill of learning directions via pictures. Oh, assuring the cookies are GF/CF/SF.
